23-Mar-2025: Beaconsfield RFC U15 vs Marlow, Buckinghamshire RFU County Plate
BRFC won 36-0 (HT 15-0)
Following a 50-24 victory over Milton Keynes in the semi-final, the Beaconsfield RFC Under 15 team powered to a 36-0 victory over Marlow to win the Buckinghamshire RFU County Plate 2025. The team, captained by Zac Holligan, were calm, controlled and focused during the build-up and captain’s team talk. With balmy weather in the first half, the forwards worked tirelessly to set up attacking pods and dominate the lineout, with Oscar Benson particularly a maul threat to Marlow’s lineout ball. This dominance set the platform to score three tries and a 15-0 half-time lead.
Watch the BRFC U15s lift the trophy here!
During the half-time team talk, Zac Holligan urged the boys to maintain their intensity and target the wide channels as Marlow’s players were bunching up in the middle of the field.
The boys executed the game plan perfectly, scoring three more converted tries despite the increasingly heavy rain. What impressed the throng of spectators most was Beaconsfield’s defensive effort. In the last five minutes, leading 36-0, Marlow sat on our five-metre line and were continually repelled. It was a ferocious defensive effort; we nicked the ball, pumped it into the crowd, and the boys, parents and coaches went wild!
Following the Plate award and medals, the team, parents and coaches retired to Los Nomadas in Beaconsfield to celebrate our victory and hand out end-of-season awards. We concluded with delicious Mexican food, a few Margaritas and a presentation to Jimmy Martin for his sterling coaching sessions this season.
Footnote: The squad of 35 players come from 13 schools; BRFC U15s have created a strong bond of camaraderie, cohesion and friendship, which is wonderful to see and incredibly rewarding.
