History in the Making: Beaconsfield Women 1st XV vs Buckingham Swans

Thu, 01 May 2025, 19:32

Friday, 25th April 2025 – a night etched in the history of Beaconsfield Rugby Club as we proudly hosted the inaugural match of our very first Women’s Rugby Team! The air buzzed with excitement as our squad took to the pitch against the formidable Buckingham Swans, one of the strongest teams in the county. After overcoming the odds and narrowly avoiding cancellation, this game was destined to be special from the outset.

History in the Making: Beaconsfield Women 1XV vs Buckingham Swans

The anticipation began building the moment our players stepped into the changing rooms. Each jersey hung with pride, accompanied by thoughtful personal notes and roses from the coaches—small gestures that spoke volumes, instantly igniting team spirit and camaraderie. With music pumping, physios taping, snacks on hand, and an electrifying atmosphere, everyone felt deeply connected to the momentous occasion unfolding before their eyes.

Led brilliantly by captain Charlotte Wright, our team stormed onto the pitch, unified and determined. Choosing to receive after winning the coin toss, Beaconsfield immediately showcased incredible confidence and resilience. Every tackle, every ruck, every turnover demonstrated the hours of training and dedication poured into preparing for this historic evening.

In the second half, the excitement intensified as the team rallied around one clear goal—scoring our first-ever try. Enter Zara Martin, a proud original Beaconsfield Bobcat, now playing with Buckingham and studying at Loughborough University. Zara returned home specifically for this historic fixture, symbolizing the evolving opportunities at Beaconsfield Rugby Club. With skillful precision and an expert dummy pass, Zara sliced through Buckingham’s defence, sprinting victoriously across the try line. The roar from the crowd, the screams of delight from teammates, and even tears from our coaches marked a magical moment we will cherish forever.

Adding a legendary twist to the evening, Rocky Clarke—England’s most capped rugby player and Beaconsfield alumna—stepped onto the pitch for Buckingham. Her return was inspirational, a full-circle moment that deeply resonated with both teams, showcasing the rich legacy and bright future of women's rugby.
