Weekly Update - Minis & Juniors are back - Week 2

Mon, 08 Sep 2025, 10:40

Minis & Juniors

With the sun shining, the club literally came alive yesterday and it was so encouraging to see the enthusiasm and energy of players and coaches alike. From the newly introduced U5s, who seem to be getting smaller each year, to the U9s doing their first ever contact session to the Colts training on the 1st XV pitch, it brought a smile to many. Anyone want to bring a friend along to try out rugby, please do so - there is always room for more and they will receive a warm welcome.

Saturday Rugby Results:

Unfortunately the enthusiasm wasn’t quite the same on Saturday as the 1st XV lost to Aylesbury in a cruel finish 34-28, with Aylesbury scoring a converted try in literally the last play of the game. It was a bizarre last 7 minutes with Aylesbury camped on our try line and eventually scored a try from a blocked down kick, which if went dead would have resulted in an excellent away win. Aylesbury were dogged throughout and truth be told we probably lost the match earlier after not executing two or three clear scoring opportunities. Man of the match for Beaconsfield was Braiden Brougham, who scored two tries, Jonny Baxter scoring the other.

The 2nd XV (pictured) on the other hand had an excellent away bonus point win against a strong Reading side, winning 12-36. Congratulations to Niall Brogden for getting a hat-trick and to Barney Gucklhorn for his man of the match performance. A superb start to the new season and definitely sets the bar for forthcoming matches.

Last Chance for Places at the Marlow lunch:

This Saturday we have both the 1st and 2nd XV at home to Marlow and Milton Keynes respectably, both kicking off at 3pm. There are just two tables left available for Saturdays lunch, so anyone not confirmed yet please click on below link or email lunches@beaconsfieldrfc.uk, Deadline for places is Tuesday 6pm.

One Can Trust Partnership:

This season the club has joined forces with One Can Trust, a national charity with local focus here in Beaconsfield and surrounding areas. One Can provides weekly food parcels to those who need their help. They have seen a huge increase in requests for support over the last few months due to the cost of living crisis and we are supporting them with both food donations and collections. More information to follow but this coming Saturday and Sunday we are looking for volunteers to help load trucks for one hour at Waitrose, 3:30 both days. If available and keen please message Sonya Batchelor in the first instance (sonya.batchelor@onecantrust.org.uk).

Club Host

One new initiative we are introducing for all 1st XV home games is the role of a match day host. In essence to welcome guests, opposition players, officials etc, ensure they know where they need to go and to provide a positive first impression of the club. This will be run on a volunteer rota basis, so 11 volunteers required. If keen please speak to Pete Tappin who has kindly agreed to organise this rota.

Finally if anyone has any ideas or would like to assist in any way please do reach out as we are always needing volunteers.

It feels like we have never been away!

Noel
