Weekly Update - Big Wins for both Men's Sides, a Cruel Loss at the Death for Colts

Sun, 12 Oct 2025, 17:25

A relatively brief update this week as I'm away on a family trip to sunny Sicily.

A Great Win Away vs Harpenden

Our first XV beat Harpenden yesterday with a really strong performance. Harpenden who were relegated from level 5 last season, were leading for most of the match, only for us to pull away in the final quarter to record a solid win 29-46. Congratulations to Alex Springer for gaining his 50th cap yesterday, a major milestone for a rugby loving young man.

2s Remain Top of the Table

The second team continued their fine run with another comprehensive league victory vs Princes Risborough, winning 60-20. That's four wins from four and we retain the top position with 18 points, above Maidenhead and Slough 1st XV both with15 points.

Colts Lose at the Death

The Colts had a cruel end to their match v Hungerford today, losing 14-13. Leading by six points with last play, Hungerford were going over in the right hand corner but we were adjudged to have put in a high tackle which the ref deemed a penalty try. A tough ending for our lads. I'm told our defence was top notch against a bigger Hungerford side. The majority of our Colts squad are U17 so definitely punching above their weight this season and should be very proud of their efforts so far.

A Big Weekend Ahead...

Next Sunday we have one of our most important days of the season, with our minis tournament. 1,200 players plus coaches, parents, siblings and grandparents, makes it one of the biggest tournaments in the region. Parking is definitely at a premium so if at all possible please walk, cycle or grab a lift down. Tina, Jim and team have put in a huge amount of work in readiness for Sunday, planning BBQs, parking, programmes, match schedules, food ordering - the list is endless. We are hugely grateful for everyone who has and is assisting in the running of this event. On that note, if anyone can spare a couple of hours next Sunday (19th) to help please let Tina know (07989 418018).

1st XV play Grasshoppers at home, kick off 3pm. Last shout for tickets for pre-match lunch - https://www.sportmember.co.uk/public_ticket_events/1st-xv-vs-grasshoppers-pre-match-lunch

Both our men's 2nd XV and ladies XV play A&C in Amersham on Saturday in league matches. Ladies kick off at 1pm and men's 2nd XV kick off 3pm

Enjoy your week, back to the pool now for me.....
