Sponsors Lunch:
The club was treated to a great day out on Saturday. The clubhouse looked spectacular as over 100 people attended the pre-match lunch, 50 of whom are current Sponsors, across 19 different organisations. We rely heavily on our Sponsors support and it’s a small token to demonstrate how much we appreciate their partnership. The whole day ran super smoothly and the feedback was thankfully overwhelmingly positive. We topped the day off with a tremendous post match music session from Stuart Wall and his band, even had a cameo on the mic from Louis Graham. Thanks to everyone who helped make the day a success.
1st XV Beat Teddington 31-27
On the field it was 3rd place (us) versus 4th and there really wasn’t much between the two sides. The game itself was a bit stop start and didn’t flow as well as previous matches but it was another strong performance from our boys. We continued to look dangerous in attack and particularly strong in defence with centre Will Howells putting in some cracking hits, winning him the Man of the Match award.
This win lifts us to second in the league which is testament to the work that the players, coaches and management have all put in this season.
2nd XV Beat Slough 1st team 22-43:
A very strong 2nd XV squad travelled to take on Slough 1st XV at their new shared ground at Drifters. The performance lived up to expectations with another bonus point win. Speaking of bonuses we had a Beaconsfield debut for young Irish lad Evan Donovan, following knee surgery in May. Evan deservedly won the Man of the Match award. He may have caught your attention as he has been practicing drop goals from the halfway line during half-time at all the 1st XV matches this year. Looking forward to seeing him convert practice into points in upcoming matches.
The twos remain in third place in the table, only a point behind first, but with a game in hand. A remarkable transformation for the entire squad, which again everyone should be proud of.
Womens Sparkle at Aylesbury Festival:
The Panthers played at their first Inner Warrior Festival in Aylesbury this weekend and smashed it! They played 4 pool games and won 3 lost 1. They beat Farringdon & Grove 25-20, Abingdon 35-0, Bicester Vixens 35-10 and lost to Aylesbury in their final game 10-20.
It was a beautiful day for rugby and the team really nailed it. Due to the numbers that turned up on the day the organisers changed the tournament format and cancelled the semis to replace it with one big barbarian final. The girls had taken a few knocks so decided to call it a day after the pool stages and not risk any injury in a barbarian game. Otherwise the Panthers were well on the way for a tournament win.
Colts Beat Table Toppers Bracknell:
The Colts played Bracknell away yesterday, a side who not only topped the table but were so far unbeaten this season. A super 7-45 win for our lads. Bracknell, as always, were particularly big lads and looked sharp in the warm up but couldn’t live with our intensity and line speed in defence. A seriously impressive statement win for us. Notable mentions to Senan Conway and Jamie Henderson who won the respective forwards and backs player of the match awards.
Other Junior Matches:
Nearly all junior sides played matches yesterday starting with the U13s who had two matches (Bears & Bulldogs), first was against Wallingford in the Oxford Cup, where unfortunately the Bears lost narrowly and an impressive win for the Bulldogs against a team from Coventry, Barkers Butts. It was a very brave and bruising encounter, but the boys were magnificent.
The U14s played a 10s tournament at Saracens where they had a tough day being mainly comprised of forwards, but the main event was staying to watch the Sarries vs Bath game, so all had a good day out.
U15s had a narrow loss to Fullarians, in a game they could have easily won and the U16s lost 40-5 against Bracknell. Our boys battled hard and the scoreline wasn’t reflective of the effort nor commitment.
Overall though again another hugely positive weekend of rugby!
