The sun was shinning for what seemed the first time this year and the clubhouse was buzzing both pre and post match on Saturday. Definitely right up there in one of the top days we have had in many a year, with the rugby on display, the hospitality being shown to guests and visitors alike and live music into the night. Numerous London Irish supporters commented on “this is what a proper grassroots rugby club should look like”. Great praise indeed.
2s Clinch Win Top of the Table Clash with Last Kick of the Game:
In a cracking match versus A&C, our 2nd team won 30-27 with Ross Richie kicking a challenging penalty goal to clinch the points with the last kick of the game. This was a proper ding dong battle with the lead changing hands many times. With 15 minutes to go we managed to get two scores up and in addition to a red card to the A&C scrum half, it appeared that the game was won. But A&C had other ideas and showed huge determination to claw back two scores to drawing 27-27. Both sides pushed for victory and despite a few missed late kicks we managed to get over the line at the death. The match was so exciting that more people ended up watching the 2nd team match than the 1st.
A huge congratulations to Coach Nick Martin, Captain Max Wright and the whole squad for a tremendous season to date. We remain top of the league and now the title is all in our hands.
1st XV do the Double on London Irish:
We had another strong side out on Saturday versus London Irish, with no less than 14 of the 18 lads coning through the mini and junior system at the club. Similar to the 2s match, Irish took an early lead but we were in control throughout and ended up winning 31-12. Congratulations to Will Howells for winning the man of the match with a huge defensive display and thanks again to Ken Malone for sponsoring the match.
Our coaching team, headed by Russ Bolton, are doing a tremendous job and we are very lucky to have them.
Sunday Rugby Was Almost a Complete Wash-Out:
With the Sunday morning downpours on already sodden pitches, all mini rugby was unfortunately cancelled. However two sides braved it out with the U14s training and the U13s winning a crucial league match versus Old Albanians 8-7, played in challenging conditions. The U13s are unbeaten in their Herts & Middx league and are looking a very strong age group.

We still have tickets left to sell for the comedy night.
