So much to update everyone on this week and difficult to choose where to start, however….
Bucks Club of the Year:
Delighted to announce that Beaconsfield RFC were presented with the Peter Trunkfield memorial trophy on Saturday, awarded to the Buckinghamshire Club of the Year, by Chris McCombie, Bucks President, for being “a proper rugby club”. This was not expected by anyone in the club and we are delighted with the accolade and it’s testament to the work and effort that everyone across the whole club has invested. Its the first time the club has been awarded this trophy and its one we should all feel proud of.
Minis Tournament - Another Huge Success:
A huge congratulations to Joint Mini Chairs, Tina Moore & Jim Brunt and all the volunteers who assisted yesterday in a massive logistical challenge. To provide some colour to these logistics, we had 130 teams, across 26 different pitches, playing 253 different matches. These players were fed with 600 burgers, 400 hot dogs and 200 bacon rolls. This was all volunteer driven and makes you proud to see the effort across the board from referees, coaches, BBQ servers, car park attendants, medical support, the list literally goes on. A huge thanks also to our festival sponsors, the Beaconsfield Services, Cricket Club and to Doctor Now for providing some extra car parking spaces. A fantastic club effort and well done everyone for this hugely successful achievement.
1st XV Lose to Brunel:
The 1st XV lost 17-48 to a strong and powerful Brunel University on Saturday, who are now just one point away from winning the league. We started the match strongly and were actually leading at half time, 10-7. However Brunel were hugely physical and over powered us in the second half to record a comprehensive victory in the end. They deserve to play at least at level 5 and I suspect with their squad and resources, would be candidates to go up one step higher. Congratulations to Issac Green for his man of the match performance, presented by match sponsors Richmere Construction.
We want to now focus on finishing in 2nd place, which would put us into the play offs and guaranteeing two home ties if we progress. We have three tough matches remaining however against Teddington in 6th place, Belsize in 2nd and Aylesbury in 5th, so all to play for still.
Ladies Lunch and U9s Pre-Match Experience
Saturday started off with a large turn out for our annual ladies lunch. In addition to being award the trophy from Bucks we were also treated to a fine speech from ladies captain Charlotte Wright, providing some real insight into the development and future aspirations of the squad.
U9s Match Day Experience:
On Saturday our U9s squad had a full match experience. Having a coaching session from both current 1st XV player Tom Rendell (currently injured unfortunately) and Head Coach Russ Bolton. The boys and girls were shown the changing room set up for matches, explained the tactics and provided a guard of honour for both sets of players onto the pitch, hopefully inspiring the next generation of players to play senior rugby at the club.
Colts:
The Colts won their last league match of the season vs Witney 47-12, finishing 3rd in their league just behind Henley and A&C.
SIx Nations Super Saturday:
No ladies or mens games next weekend but we do have Six Nations Super Saturday to look forward to. This tournament has been fascinating so far and every side has the ability to beat everyone else. The clubhouse will be open throughout for what looks like a fascinating day.
Thanks again to everyone for their help and support, especially after this super busy weekend
