BRFC U16 vs Chiltern, Bucks RFU County Cup Winners

Tue, 25 Mar 2025, 12:20

BRFC U15 Bucks County Plate winners 24-25

U16s finally beat their bogeyman in County Cup Final! In a nail biting final hosted at A&C the U16s led by fearless Capt Fred B lifted the elusive and impressive trophy in front of a huge crowd bolstered by the travelling hordes of supporters and family members. Plus a gang of senior players who helped the boys prepare over the last few weeks. Big thanks for those that made the trip....you made a special day even more momentous.

Watch the BRFC U16s lift the Bucks Cup here!

As ever Beaconsfield started strongly and dominated possession and territory with Jonah and Johnny ensuring play was contained deep in the A&C half. However, despite some excellent defence their danger man in the centre made a half break and put their winger away off a strong scrum.

7-0.

The boys remained calm and continued to play to their trusted pattern with the forwards carrying beyond the gainline regularly and the midfield stretching the defence with their flat accurate passing getting the ball to our strike runners out wide. However, our composure let us down on the last pass on at least 3 occasions.....the coaching ticket getting a sense of deja vu from the final last year!

Fortunately the boys had cooler heads and kept it together with the hugely impressive Benedict dotting down in the first half following some great carries by our tight 5.

7-5

The boys at half time were fully aware what improvements and adjustments needed to happen and to trust that the performance would take care of the result. Essentially the coaching ticket didn't need to add much.

Following some aggressive phase play playing up the slope and into a strong wind a superb miss pass put Seb Gould into a gap and he scored a quintessential wingers try in the corner rounding their full back with ease.

7-10

The rest of the match was a like a boxing match with each team landing jabs but big Tom Paz secured the knockout blow following some powerful maul work off a secure line out.

7-15

That's not to say the rest of the match wasn't without incident....A&C scored with a few mins remaining and they nearly nicked it at the death but for an incredible last ditch tackle by Luke Hilton.

Final Score 12 - 15

Each player in the 22 made a significant impact and the boys in the wider squad came along to support their teammates which was much appreciated. However it would be remiss of us not to mention some special performances by Benedict, James R, Ed, Harrison, Fred and Seb who were conspicuous through their hard carrying and defence. The combination of Zeb, Jonah and Johnny marshalled the team expertly too.

Well done to all the players and coaches on an incredibly special day and a wonderful way to close off another good season for this cohort. Hopefully we can contribute to a strong Colts 25-26 season.
